Well, stories don't get much worse than this. A 14-year-old boy in China was killed when his chair exploded, sending chunks of metal into his rectum. The bleeding this caused killed him.
The alleged explosion came from the gas cylinder that was in the base of the chair, the part that allowed the user to adjust the seat up and down. The canister gets compressed when you sit on it, but can it actually create enough energy to make the seat cushion explode like that and kill a man? I doubt it, but this is what people are reporting.

Bus Driver Slaps Passenger

A drama unfolded aboard bus 903 last night when a bus driver reportedly slapped a passenger for not paying his fare, but SMRT claims that it was the driver who was attacked.
Mdm Yang, 55, a cleaner, informed Shin Min Daily that she was on board bus 903 on Monday night when she witnessed the incident.
She and about ten other passengers boarded the bus at Woodlands interchange at about 10.20pm.
At around 10.45pm, when the bus reached the bus stop in front of block 206 at Marsiling, the bus driver started shouting at one of the men on the bus, accusing him of not paying the bus fare.
Mdm Yang told Shin Min that the passenger appeared drunk, or groggy and did not respond.
Annoyed at being ignored, the bus driver stopped the bus and walked up to the passenger demanding to know why he did not pay the bus fare.
After some time, the passenger started swearing at the driver. The enraged driver finally slapped the passenger and called the police.Mdm Yang said that the passenger did not react when slapped and continued to sit in a dazed state.'

Held hostage' on bus

After the bus driver made the police report, he wanted the passengers to act as witnesses and refused to let them alight."We told him that it was late. Everyone was cold, and we asked him to let us off the bus but he refused to open the doors," Mdm Yang said.
Mdm Yang also told Shin Min that the driver spoke to her rudely, and asked her in harsh tones not to bother him as he was already in a bad mood.They were only allowed to get off when the police arrived.
As it was already very late, the passengers headed to Johor Bahru had to walk to the Woodlands checkpoint.According to Mdm Yang, many passengers were unhappy at the behaviour of the bus driver, but were simply too tired to complain.

SMRT replies: Passenger hit driver

In response to media queries, SMRT replied that the bus driver wanted to ascertain if the passenger had paid his fare.When the passenger did not respond, the driver explained that he had to get off the bus if he had not paid the fare. The passenger then started to shout vulgarities at the driver and hit him.According to SMRT, the police is investigating the case and the bus driver is receiving treatment for his injuries.

Class Chalet news Update

The class chalet shall be from 10/11 to 12/11. There will only be one unit for us to stay in, it may be quite squeezy, so pls be mentally prepared...

Since the book in time is 4pm, I suggest the class meet at Pasir Ris MRT Station at 3pm. The check out time must be before night, but the actual time to leave can be decided later.

Possible activities during the chalet

BBQ on 11/11 evening
movies to watch
Indoor games like mahjong and poker cards
Outdoor sports
Sharing session (last chance to share anything with e class)
Cycling (if u guys want)
Wild wild wet or escape theme park nearby (if u guys want)

Anyone wif any other activities in mind pls propose. Also provide ur comments on the above activities.

What to bring

Toiletries (you all may want to share some items)
Money. The cycling fee cost around $12 per day and $4 per hour. The theme park fee is $17.70 per person; wild wild wet is $15.50 per person. Then also have to include daily meal expenses. Suggested safe amount to bring: $60
Games if you would like
Snacks (some tidbits will be bought for e class, but in case anyone wants more, pls bring)

Class chalet

Here's the latest update to the class chalet.

The date is from 10/11 (around 4pm) to 13/11( around 9am). In other words, it'll be a 3 nights camp. The chalet we are booking is a 2 room Pasir Ris Holiday Flat unit. Price is around $200 (rough estimate inclusive of electricity bills). Below is a map of the chalet (the one with the red star.)

因为觉得笑晖写的过于正式,不够抒情,所以这个抒情一点的差不多可以与英文版的遥相呼应,应该相对来说比较合适

在这首散文诗中,提及了我们在海边快乐的情景,我们送别时依依不舍的心情还有我们4C之间的友谊,在诗的最后还使用双关将cordon bleu放入诗中，应该算是不错了吧。。。

4C两年的经历

转眼间，4C班已经成长了两年了。由陌生到熟悉，由新奇到珍惜，在这一年里，我们彼此之间都成长了不少，收获了不少。这个大家庭教会了我们独立，教会了我们坚强，更教会了我们互相关爱。

4C轶事之——特殊的集体
可以说，4C是一个特殊的集体。在这个大家庭中，有一半的中国留学生，这对我们这个尚不成熟的集体来说是个不小的挑战。

记得刚开学的一段时间，班中很明显的分成了两股“势力”。下课和自由活动时间，我们总是泾渭分明，老死不相往来。这样的情况极大的阻碍了我们班级的团结，也对我们造成了不好的影响。庆幸的是，这种情况在老师和同学们的共同努力下得到了极大的缓解。现在我们的4C班，是个名副其实的团结班级，大家互帮互助，之前的隔阂不复存在，加油！4C，你是大家努力建造的家庭，我们大家依你为傲。

4C轶事之——暖暖的亲情
2年的生活并不是一帆风顺。期间，也经历过离别和伤痛的洗礼。但是我们永远记得，我们有35个兄弟姐妹，不管你们在哪里，我们的亲情和祝福与你们同在。

还记得去年的今天，事情来得像是晴空霹雳。相处了一年的同学，竟不得不提前离开这一片充盈着梦想的土地。那之后，虽然我们大家都下定决心把4C当成我们永远的家，但不久前分别的悲剧还是再次上演。两年的生活，有人在磨练和打击中渐渐变得坚韧，也有的人经历不住荆棘和坎坷渐渐败退。回想两年前作为留学生的我们初到时的欢声笑语和美好憧憬，再看看眼前的泪眼婆娑和依依不舍，我的心中真的犹如打翻了五味坛，百感交集。

兄弟们，不管你未来学在哪里，不管你未来发展在哪里，请记住，在这片土地上仍有32个人在时刻牵挂着你。为了我们当初的梦想和决心，加油！

I am sorry for this late update. It's an honest mistake. Let's move on.

Reasons for the late update:
1. Game commence: I went on Mon afternoon, and stayed until 6pm, only to find out that she was busy the whole day with meetings.
So I spoke to her at the end of the day, and she said she would be free on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.
2. I went on Tue afternoon, and stayed until 6pm, only to find out that she was busy the whole day, with her sec 2s and meetings.
So I spoke to her at the end of the day, and she said she would be free on Wednesday morning, from 11am to 1130am (as she had a meeting in the morning). She said she had meetings on the whole of Wed afternoon. (whether you believe it or not is up to you)
3. I went on Wed morning. Finally I saw her appear and talked to her with Liu Chang for about 10min. Then at 1110am, she said she had a leasson,and disappeared back into the staff room. I was bewildered, as I thought her lesson was at 1130am and I still had some questions to ask her. So I waited until around 1220pm and saw her appear. Apparently, she didn't hear me calling her and disappeared into the staff room. I waited for awhile and called her using the phone. A teacher, souding like Ms Lily Kan, said she was busy. So I left. Game over.

Extra information:

I saw Huishan on Tuesday. We were studying together and Ms Teo was sitting behind us with her s2s. So we waited and when she left, Hui Shan called her. Apparently, she didn't hear Hui Shan calling her and disappeared into the staff room. Hui Shan chased after her, and she said "I think you all may not be able to see me today"...

Liu Chang saw her leaving the school today morning at 8am. He chased after her, and she said she had a meeting until 11am. Looks like she's a really busy person...

She did advise emailing her questions, but I doubt that she has time to reply. As I recall, some time ago, Hui Shan emailed her some questions, and she said that she did not receive the email.
You all can try emaling her if you want, and see whether she replies or not by tonight.

Note: there is no answer for SS, because she was too busy.

Here are my answers, which I passed to her to mark on Monday. She said she would look thorugh them on Tuesday, as she had to settle her s2s first. So i only got them back today.

How true is it to say that the building of the dam is a mistake for China?

There is a certain amount of truth ("It is true" got cancelled) to say that the building of the dam is a mistake for China, as sources A,B,C and E are criticising the dam for its negative impact on the lives of people. The people cannot "change anything" after the dam is built, and they had to live with the fact that their "houses were demolished" and accept that the dam will result in a "posioned river" and "loss of historical artefacts". Hence, as the building of the dam disrupted the lives of the people physically (circled), psychologically and mentally, they had to suffer for the rest of their lives. Thus the building of the dam is ammistake for China, as it desttroyed the welfare(circled) of the people.

However, the truthfulness of the sources are limited. Source A,B and E are by the West, who feel threatened by China's growing power in Asia. So they may be biased and undermine China's accomplishment in the buulding of the dam, to ruin the reputation of China such that their status as world power is protected. Source C is by a Chinese, who intentionally wrote a book to criticise the Chinese government, so he is also biased.

Besides that,Source D shows that the building of the dam had positive impact, such as "generation of electricity and flood control", so the dam is not completely a wrong decision.Hence,it is true to say that the building of the dam is a mistake for China due to its negative impact on the people, but it is not a mistake (circled) in terms of the benefits the dam brought to the country.

Cultural barriers were so strong,

Weeks and months flew, this staleness felt wrong,

The turning point in the stagnation surfaced,

When waves or ordeals struck us dazed,

Not one, but two of us depart,

Just at the moment when the exams start.

Amidst the confusion, grief and sorrow,

We brace ourselves for a better tomorrow,

This dreadful chapter of tears came to a close.

Seasons change as we flip a new page by,

Bonded by memories, friendship and all

We have come a long way
from strangers to classmates then to friends
from tolerance to harmony to forgiveness

Recall the first time when we met
how we kept ourselves from each other
Ice-breaking games during the first few weeks
class contact time and new seating arrangement
slowly we get to know one another's names

Then we went on to develop the friendship
Through CIPs, class outings, OBS
we may be the slowest class to foster the bond
But we are definitely not the class with the weakest bond

Challenge comes when two of our classmates left
we despair, we cry, we feel Heaven's playing a joke
why is our class separated when we finally foster a bond?
But what is done cannot be undone
we pick ourselves up together as a class
and continue the journey as 35 souls

A new year starts, a new beginning for the class
we have a new classroom
one with aircon, cosy as home

the third time in 2 years, 4C has to make a trip to the airport again.

another classmate is leaving us.

the news were shocking, because it was so sudden and it hit us right in the face. we only saw hengyi when we were heading to the lt and we just thought he woke up late as usual.who knows, we realised later on that he was going to leave us for good back to china.and it is highly possible that we will never see each other again. its so weird to think that he was just here for school on monday, and now we will probably never see him again.

his letter was so touching and it made us all cry during the math lesson. many of us were trying to keep it in, but apparently, all it took was one person to cry to start a chain reaction.

yes, hengyi is right. 是离别的时候了。

once again, another beloved classmate is leaving.

this is one of the most difficult partings as he has spent the longest time with us.

we have studied together for 2 years, or rather lesser than 2 years.although its not a long time, i wont say it was a short duration either.

i will remember his bouncy long hair, his squeal, the times when i scared him by screaming his name, the times where he always fell asleep during the lectures and the lessons, the times where we played soccer together during pe and shouted at him all the while, the times where we mimicked him and the times where we laughed at him for being extremely late for school.

and of course, we will remember him as hengyi, a friendly, outgoing friend. a person worth knowing, worth befriending.

it is indeed a depressing thought on thinking that we could have completed the 2 year journey and move on to year5 together, but we didnt.

whatever it is, im glad i got to know him.im glad we were in 4C together. and im very happy that im in class 4c. even though we were an extremely detached class at first, so much so that many teachers had to make us play class bonding games and motivational talks.

in the end, we became a class more united than ever, who won many competitions, who cheered each other on during difficult times. and this would have been impossible without even one person.we all played a part in making 4cordonbleu such a united class.

many people may say that our class is nothing to be proud of.many teachers may hate our class because we dont participate in the discussions.but im proud of this class, i know that we are one of the best classes across the level. we may not answer questions, we many not respond in class, but im very sure that deep down in all of us, we are good students through and through. we worry about exams, we have a good attitude, we are always willing to go to greater heights. and most importantly, we are always ready to offer help and encourage one another.

4c may be a stupid class in people's eyes. made up of nerdy guaikias. but we all know, we have many merits as a class that is definitely worth our pride.

we will respect hengyi's choice to leave 4C because after all, he is not really leaving this class, but this education here. if he is happier there back at his home, we should feel happy for him too. 也许是一种解脱.

just know that hengyi will always be part of 4C. and we will never forget the happy memories and time we have spent together.

What to wear during the celebration

I think some girls will be wearing the Indian costume(sari). Guys will be wearing sarongs with class tee during the celebration. After the celebration, we may need to change back to school uniform for the talk, so everyone pls bring along ur school uniform too. I think guys should also bring along PE tee just in case the judges/org comm cannot relate class tee with racial harmaony. Everyone who will be wearing ethnic costume on that day, pls check out how to wear your costumes.

Things to settle on Mon morning

Everyone is expected to report to school by 6:30am for preparation purposes. Things that need to be done includes

*edited. Deliver oneh oneh to the sec3s who ordered from us first. Collect money. May have to ask those who ordered to come our class/canteen and get their tehtarik. (will write msg on their class whiteboards) we will see how things go tmr.
Get money from the teachers who order from us
Deliver food to 1F and 1A by 7:15am (tentative plan)
Boil water
Get ready teh tarik and oneh oneh by 7am
Decorate the balloons
Touch-up on some decorations
Crush ice (if anyone has any tools that can be used to crush big box of ice, u r welcome to bring them along)
Rehearsal for advertisment

By 7:30am, hopefully everything can be finished. The 5 students that have to leave early to set up the stall have to set up the stall properly before 8am. The celebration will commence around 8am, by then people tending the stall must be ready and the portable teams must be on standby. So those who havn't settle your portable teams yet, try to settle before Monday, if not latest by Mon morning.

Advertisng

Time slot is around 9 to 9:30am. 1 min to prepare, 3 min to perform, 1 min to clear up. Performers please be near the canteen piano area 5 min before the actual show time. Portable teams that are involved in the cheering part, pls also stop your work and be ready then. There will be no projector available, but laptop may be available(Mr Lee is trying to borrow 1 for us, but no news from him yet). So pls be prepared if there is no laptop available. 3 chairs is needed for the performance, and perhaps some other props to show the pricing. People involved(from what I know): Yihua, Liuchang, Hengyi, Melissa, some from portable teams.

That's about all I have. Everyone has worked hard for this day, so put in your best efforts and bring in as many customers as you can on that day. Here's wishing 4C a successful and worthwhile racial harmony day!

Hey 4C! CIP is this Saturday 7 June at Orange Valley Nursing Home (Clementi branch). We have already completed making the bead bracelets for the elderly. For this Saturday, the CIP starts at 2pm, but we will be meeting earlier to practise singing the songs again and do any last minute preparations for the CIP. We can eat lunch together too :)

Meeting time: 12 pm
Meeting venue: Clementi MRT station
Attire: Class tee and jeans

CIP Meeting

Hi everyone! The CIP meeting has been decided to be this thursday, 5th June. We will be meeting at 1pm at Bishan MRT, then we will go to the PRCs' hostel. PRCs, please get one or two of you to come and fetch us from the MRT ok? Thanks!

During the meeting we will be doing preparation work for the CIP. Haha..we will be practising how to sing the songs that we are going to sing for the old folks.

Venue: East Coast -> Changi area?

Plans for the day:
we will meet at 12pm at bedok bus interchange first.
then we will take bus together from there to east coast
and have our lunch there (mac or burger king or dont know still got what)

yay then we will go rent bikes and cycle!
price for Single Bike : $6/hour
price for Double seater bike: $8/hour (to be shared by 2 ppl lol duh)

we will cycle for about 2 hour from east coast to changi village? then back to east coast to return the bikes.
hahahah mr lee maybe joining us too! :D

Please bring sufficient money for lunch and renting of bikes and maybe dinner!

charlotte suggested that we go for iceskating for class outing during the june holidays so shiyuan and i went to look at the price rates today at jec ice skating rink.

student price:

$11.80/2h
overtime charge is $4.30/hour
renting of the skating shoes is $3.30 per pair

group price:

$60 per 4 people (i think this has no time limit)
no overtime charge
no charge for renting of skating shoes

another suggestion is we go cycling around i think east coast to changi area? we can decide where we gonna ride to when we reach there.

btw for those who dont really know how to cycle, there is this kind of bike which two people can ride together. one person sits at the front while another one sits at the back but both have to step on paddles
the one who knows how to ride a bicycle can sit infront and control the bike
the one who doesnt know how to ride can sit at the back and dun paddle also nevermind lol just that the person in front will be quite tiring

yeah we can do both lah lol as long as we can decide on the dates for class outing.

as for dining place, everyone can suggest to use a place big enough for most of the class to be seated in and is rather affordable

I dont know if you all still want another class tee shirt or any class thing this yr. must suggest to the welfare reps (yifei hengyi sheila jaslin) okay!

Today, I went to school and made some interesting observations about the (our) teachers.
(Note: this may be a little random, but I thought I should share this.)

1. Serene Teo is actually a fantastic teacher! Today, while I was doing some work, she came over to discuss with me about SCS SBQ and SEQ. During our discussion, she gave me the impression of a frank person and even asked me "Why you come to school so late?". Maybe she thought my alarm clock broke down or something, but it was rather unexpected of her to ask. Talking to her, I felt a strange feeling words cannot describe (surprise?) but I shall attempt to express it here. It felt as though someone cracked an egg on top of my head and the egg yolk was dripping down my face? Anyway, her advice for SCS is that we should focus more on Northern Ireland than Switzerland and that we should study Britain as a whole. This was how she put it "Welfare state (Britain) is the main set, NHS is the subset. When you write about welfare state, you can bring it examples from NHS." because NHS is the health component (service) of Britain. She also reminded us to read the questions carefully. Before she left, she even said "If you have any questions, you can email me.You can find my email on the Intranet." As I have no idea where or why her email will be on Intranet (where is Intranet?), I asked her if it was IVLE. Apparently, she didn't know that all the teachers's emails were on IVLE but after that when I told her so, she said I could get her email from the Intranet and IVLE if necessary.( note: her email is teo_swee_choon_serene@moe.edu.sg) Isn't she so sweet? We should try to look beyond her flaws. [If you're still unconvinced, she drew a smiley face =) on my "welfare state" essay. It surprised me initially but it takes time to understand people...]

2. I saw Yang Hui Lin going back to the staff room with another teacher Ms Mak Wei Shan (if i'm not wrong). They wanted to open the door but apparently, both of them forgot to bring their door passes out. I was extremely surprised by their "blurness". It's like leaving your house without bringing with you the key. So of course, both of them were locked out of the staff room(lol). Then, Yang Hui Lin decided to bang/ knock on the tempered door to get other teachers to open the door. Obviously it wasn't loud enough or maybe they don't want to help her for reasons unknown. So while I hid in one corner silently (sniggering), Yang Hui Lin decided to go try the back door (windowed). Unfortunately, no one was in the room at that time so she went around asking for help. She borrowed a door pass from Mr Lee ( I think that's his name) sitting in front of me and managed to get into the staff room. End of show. But I honestly didn't expect Yang Hui Lin and the other teacher to be so forgetful... (it's a entry key!)

3. I saw Yang Hui Lin again. After her careless episode, a student went to ask her about SCS. For some reason, she chose to sit near me (maybe she found out I was amused by her antics?). Anyway, the PRC asked her some stuff and she spoke in a slightly loud tone. She wasn't berating the PRC or anything; just a bit loud. So, I watched her again guiding the PRC meticulously, showing her how to write SCS essays properly and the art of planning (something about arrows which I don't quite remember). I also noticed she prints a lot of handouts/practices for her classes. After her consultation, she told the PRC," When you take the exam, just do your best and perform normally. Even if you don't do well, just accept your results... (forgot)". Wow, great words from a great person. Too bad this is the first time I'm hearing those words this year. I heard that she's leaving soon for some reason, which is pretty sad for a remarkbale teacher like her. But at least there are still good SCS teachers like Serene Teo (right?)...

4. While doing my homework, I saw some teachers playing soccer at the field with some boys. I didn't know teachers coukd play games with students during school hours. It was also surprising that out of the 4 teachers (guess who?), 1 of them was a female, which isn't from PE department. So I continued observing and found out that teachers can be quite fun-loving as well. just that we don't see that side so often.

5. I stared in front at Mr Lee guiding 4 girls on Chemistry: Stoichiometry & The Mole Concept. I knew it was that because one of the girls was talking about empirical formula and they were all doing the questions from our long set of notes last year. Anyway, I heard Mr Lee explaning to them about that and even asked them about other subjects. After that, he bought them all milo drinks and pau. Doing so meant that he had violated the school rule of "eating only in the canteen" because students are expected to consume all food and drinks in the canteen. But anyway while thinking about what a nice teacher he was, I was also wondering if anyone would pop up and give me a Milo (just kidding)because I was rather thirsty and didn't want to go to the canteen . Too bad none did, so I continued watching them. Mr Lee was explaning to them how they shoud wish that the paper was difficult, because it means the marks range from lowest to highest will be very big. Then, if a student does well, he will be in the top percentile or something like that. What he said does make sense but I was hesitant about whether I would want the exams to be difficult. Anyway, I digress but he is quite a kind teacher.

6. It was 6pm and VP's voice came out from the speakers. He said "Hello RVians, it is 6pm and you are hearing my voice again. I believe you know what you are expected to do... pack your bags and go home. Have a nice holiday. I will see you again on Friday." Firstly, I was absolutely delighted to hear his voice (again) because the absence of his voice for so long made me worried that something bad had befallen our dear VP, which would be really tragic. Secondly, it was nice of him to wish students a pleasant holiday. Normally, the impression students have of him is the "monster" that he always says he is, on the lookout for errant students, making students buy badges etc. It was quite a different VP (less harsh?)

7. Inspired by the events of the day, I went to look at the Staff (Photos) Board to find out the name of that nice teacher who provided free Milo. Sadly, I couldn't confirm if his name was Mr Lee but if I'm not wrong, he lives somewhere in jurong West (from his conversation). But while looking at the Science Department, I happened to see Mrs Lee's face and she was actually smiling (or maybe I was hallucinating. kind of reminds me of the tangs model blinking video) It's rare to see her smile because normally she projects a stern image.

8. Conclusion: teachers have their other/ different (fun) sides as well, just that they don't show it often, so we should love all teachers!! Like Serene Teo, we shouldn't judge her so critically?
